Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA503QS Laptop With Ryzen 5000-Series CPU Review

ASUS ROG RYZEN G15
Buy @ Amazon
Asus has done it again, almost. It has come up with another gorgeous-looking gaming laptop that has a reasonable price tag and delivers a powerful performance. I got the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 a few days back, and I am truly impressed by its all-around capabilities. The company has launched two variants in India with AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS and the Ryzen 9 5900HS. You also get two GPU options - Nvidia RTX 3060 and RTX 3070, both configured with 80W TDP.

The rest of the specifications on both laptops are almost identical. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 price in India starts at Rs 1,37,990 but, the top-end variant I have cost Rs 1,46,990. Those who follow the tech space would know that the ROG Zephyrus is a gaming laptop, but it also caters to content creators. Now, it’s time to look at things in detail and tell you what makes the ROG Zephyrus G15 a powerful machine.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Design

This can be very subjective. I know a lot of gamers prefer fancy-looking laptops with unique designs, powerful hardware, and unusual elements on the lid. The Asus ROG Zephyrus doesn’t feature any of them. It has a very simple and plain white lid with 8,279 spaced perforations across the surface as the only noteworthy mention. Honestly, I kind of like that.

This allows the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 to blend into any surroundings. The laptop comes in two colour options and the white colour variant which I got for review is an absolute delight. It’s not very often that I prefer white colour on anything and that speaks volumes for what Asus has achieved here with the G15.

It is not the slimmest or lightest laptop but maintains a decent profile for a gaming machine. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is just 19.9mm slim and weighs 1.9Kgs. This gives it a huge advantage over other gaming laptops. The body is a mix of magnesium and aluminium, and the chassis feels quite solid.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Display

What impressed me most about the Zephyrus G15 is its brilliant display. Asus has used a 15.6-inch 2K display with 165Hz refresh rate support. It also covers 98.4-per cent of DCI-P3 and 146.6-percent of sRGB colour space. However, it’s the 1440p screen that made a lot of difference for me. It is a lot sharper than the 1080 panels and the difference is even more noticeable due to the large screen size.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Performance

Even before I talk about the performance, let me give you a disclaimer for someone who owns a console and literally survived the pandemic because of it, it’s not easy to go back to a gaming PC and be impressed. Yet, Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 managed to excite me on multiple occasions. The Ryzen 9 5900HS is one of the most powerful CPUs you can get with 8 cores, 16 threads, and 16MB L3 cache. The additional cores make gaming seamless and also come into effect while multitasking, ensuring that there are no lags. The GPU at the heart of Zephyrus G15 makes it a gaming beast but, it’s also the thermal system that makes a huge difference in getting that performance. Asus has used a liquid metal thermal interface and a redesigned Heatpipe and fan system that is faster and quieter than previous Asus laptops. It ensures that the laptop hardly heats up, and you can’t even hear the fan running. The audio performance is where Asus can do better. Asus claims to have 6 drivers in the laptop two tweeters and four woofers.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Keyboard and trackpad

Asus has done a good job with the keyboard and the trackpad. Most keys (except the arrow keys) are big and well-spaced. They have good feedback. Asus has also equipped the machine with four dedicated hotkeys at the top. These include volume up and down buttons, a button to turn off the microphone and a button to directly open the Armoury Crate.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Connectivity options

It’s been a while now since Asus started equipping its laptops with most connectivity options and that’s visible on the Zephyrus G15 as well. It has two USB Type-A ports, two USB Type-C ports (Gen 3.2 each) with 100-watts of Power Delivery and DisplayPort support, an RJ45 port, an audio jack, an HDMI 2.0 output, a Kensington lock slot, and a micro-SD card reader.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Battery life

A gaming laptop with great battery life seems like a fantasy. But, this machine manages to do a decent job. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 is packed with a 90Whr battery which charges via a barrel charger. Asus claims that the laptop can deliver around 14 hours of playback. However, the maximum I managed to get was around 8 to 9 hours while streaming and about 6 hours with gaming. It is still decent for a gaming machine as you are unlikely to move it around.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 review: Final verdict

I think I made my thoughts about this laptop clear with the first few lines of this review. But, if you have reached here, let me highlight once again that the Zephyrus G15 is one of the best gaming laptops you can buy right now and that too, without breaking a bank. Yes, Rs 1,46,990 is not an amount everyone can spend but, it’s also what people end up paying for a capable gaming machine.

The Ryzen 9 5900HS and the RTX 3060 GPU ensure that you get a seamless performance, the display is a delight and you managed to squeeze an impressive amount of battery life. The only disappointments are the lack of a webcam and average audio quality. If that’s not an issue for you, then the ROG Zephyrus G15 should be the gaming laptop to spend this year. GET IT

BEST GAMING LAPTOPS IN 2021

BEST GAMING LAPTOPS IN 2021

The Best Gaming Laptop at every Price and Size

1. ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G15

THE BEST GAMING LAPTOP

Asus’s ROG Zephyrus G14 was our top gaming laptop pick for quite a while. It did just about everything right, and we weren’t sure whether Asus could ever replicate its resounding success. But somehow, the company managed to make the G14 just a bit bigger, and a heck of a lot better. In doing so, it’s created the ROG Zephyrus G15, the best 15-inch rig you can buy.

At just over four pounds, the Zephyrus G15 is one of the lightest 15-inch gaming laptops you can buy. But you’re not making any compromises on performance for that portability: it’s powered by the top mobile chips that AMD and Nvidia have to offer and includes a fast 165Hz QHD (1440p) display. Together, those components can handle even the toughest AAA titles at QHD resolution. The panel has excellent color reproduction as well, so your games will look great.

But it’s not just the gaming; almost everything else about the G15 is great, too. The audio (pumped from a six-speaker array) has strong percussion and bass, the keyboard and touchpad have a satisfying click, the port selection leaves little to be desired, and the battery can last for a whopping eight and a half hours.

The G15 won’t be the laptop for everyone. There’s no webcam, which is a significant oversight, and some may prefer something more affordable, or with a flashier aesthetic. But as a package, the G15 is the one to beat. Not only is it the best gaming laptop you can buy, but it’s also one of the best laptops you can buy, period.

2. ASUS ROG ZEPHYRUS G14

THE BEST GAMING LAPTOP IN A 14-INCH CHASSIS

The ROG Zephyrus G14 is the best 14-inch gaming laptop you can buy. We most recently reviewed last year’s model, which includes AMD’s Ryzen 4000 series up to the eight-core Ryzen 9 4900HS and an Nvidia RTX 2060 GPU. There’s a brand-new model out featuring the Ryzen 5000 series and Nvidia’s RTX 30-series graphics, which we’re looking forward to getting our hands on ASAP.

For well under ₹1Lakh, the Zephyrus crams one of the most powerful mobile processors on the market into a super portable 14-inch chassis. With capable cooling to boot, the laptop delivers frame rates we’ve never seen in a laptop of this size before. It handled every game we threw at it without breaking a sweat.

But aside from its excellent gaming performance, the G14 makes a great daily driver. The keyboard, touchpad, display, and port selection are all excellent. Even the battery life is good — something we rarely get to say about gaming laptops.

There are a few downsides to the G14, but they’re fairly small and user-dependent. The most significant note is that it lacks a webcam; you’ll need an external one if you plan on making video calls. There’s also some bleed in the backlighting, there’s no Thunderbolt connectivity (since it’s an AMD system, and that’s an Intel standard), and the fans can get louder than most under load. But these are very much nitpicking that won’t have a large impact on plenty of people’s gaming experience. Overall, we have very few complaints.

Asus recently collaborated with DJ Alan Walker on the Zephyrus G14 Alan Walker Edition, with a box that becomes a DJ deck.

3. RAZER BLADE PRO 17

THE BEST BIG-SCREEN GAMING LAPTOP

The Blade Pro 17 delivers some of the best gaming performance you can find in a laptop — but that’s not even its superpower. What makes Razer’s 17-inch flagship so impressive is it packs that unbelievable power into a thin and attractive chassis. It’s just 0.8 inches thick and only requires one charging brick — so you can carry it around in a backpack or briefcase without compromising on power.

Gaming enthusiasts can opt for a model with a 300Hz screen — the highest refresh rate you can get on a laptop — while folks who want to combine gaming with some creative work can opt for a 120Hz touchscreen configuration. Both models come with a customizable per-key RGB keyboard, which adds a touch of color to the Pro’s design without being too obnoxious for the office.

The Blade Pro 17 certainly isn’t cheap, but it’s the laptop to buy if you want the best of the best.

4. ASUS ROG STRIX G15 ADVANTAGE EDITION

THE BEST BIG-SCREEN GAMING LAPTOP

The ROG Strix G15 Advantage Edition is one of the few gaming laptops you’ll find that includes both an AMD processor and an AMD GPU. Not to worry — it delivers gaming performance on par with what you’ll see from laptops with Nvidia’s top GPUs. It also delivers one of the best gaming battery experiences we’ve ever seen — it was able to maintain playable frame rates on Red Dead Redemption 2 for over an hour with no charger attached.

Speaking of battery, we averaged nine hours and 16 minutes of work use between charges, which makes the Strix G15 far and away one of the longest-lasting gaming laptops on the market. That’s doubly impressive because it’s powering a ton of flashy LEDs, including a per-key RGB keyboard and a colorful light strip around the front edge of the deck. If you’re looking for a jazzy, bold design and you’re all-in on AMD, the Strix G15 Advantage edition is the best gaming laptop for you.

5. DELL G5 15 SE

THE BEST BUDGET GAMING LAPTOP

The Dell G5 15 SE offers a great gaming experience at a price range far below that of many competitors. You can buy it for around ₹90,000, and it doesn’t ask too many compromises for that price. While it only comes with a 60Hz screen, the hardware inside (especially AMD’s Ryzen 7 processor) is capable of maxing that out on all kinds of demanding games at native 1080p resolution, so you can reliably expect a playable experience from your favorite titles.

We’re also impressed by the G5’s connectivity. It includes a Mini DisplayPort, an HDMI, and an Ethernet jack — all ports you don’t see every day on laptops at this price point. Overall, if you’re looking for great value for your money, the G5 is your best bet.

6. RAZER BLADE 15 ADVANCED

A GREAT THIN AND LIGHT GAMING LAPTOP

The Blade 15 isn’t as powerful as its 17-inch sibling, but it may be a more pragmatic purchase for many people. If you’re looking for a balanced combination of performance and portability, the Blade 15 may hit that sweet spot. It still packs the top chips on the market and can come with a 300Hz display, but at just 4.7 pounds and 0.7 inches thick, it’s comparable in size to several 15-inch productivity machines like the Dell XPS 15.

In addition to its reliable gaming performance, the Blade 15 works well as a productivity machine. We’re big fans of its keyboard, which is quite comfortable to use and has per-key RGB lighting, and the touchpad, which is roomy with a satisfying click. Our primary complaint is that this Blade got quite hot during our game testing — not only did the processor reach 99 degrees, but the hinge and palm rests were uncomfortable to touch.

7. ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR 15

THE BEST LAPTOP WITH FLASHY RGB

If you’re looking for a “traditional” premium gaming laptop with colorful, flashy panache, the ROG Strix Scar 15 is for you. The Strix’s keyboard isn’t just one of the most comfortable that we’ve ever tested on a gaming laptop; it also has some of the coolest per-key RGB lightings we’ve ever seen with all kinds of effects. There’s also a colorful light strip wrapped around the front of the deck (customizable as well) and a colorful glowing logo on the lid. In short: if you use this in public, people will notice.

Of course, the Strix is great on the inside as well, delivering some of the best frame rates you’ll find from a 15-inch laptop with Intel’s and Nvidia’s top chips. You’ll get the full benefit of their power with a 300Hz screen option as well. And the Strix comes preloaded with various programs to help customize your gaming experience. You can personalize color profiles, bandwidth allocation, and more based on the type of game you’re playing.

8. ALIENWARE AREA-51M

A GAMING LAPTOP WITH DESKTOP-CLASS PARTS

If money and desk space are no objects for you, you might be interested in the Alienware Area-51m. This hefty ring is essentially a desktop in laptop form. It pairs a desktop-class processor and a full-power mobile GPU with a 17-inch display and a full-size keyboard, delivering true desktop performance in a chassis that’s still (technically) portable. PC enthusiasts will also appreciate that you can update many of the components yourself, including the processor, RAM, and storage.

What is Encryption Technology

What is Encryption Technology

This is a world of net surfing, online shopping, and communicating (texting and calling) via internetwork. This has made everyone’s life easier. Who would have thought that one can buy literally everything sitting at home in just a few clicks! But for that, a person has to send his sensitive information like credit card information, username, login password, transaction password, etc. How can you trust a website that is not going to share that data or use it against you when you decide to buy something from there? The thing that makes such websites reliable is the latest encryption technology that it uses.

What is Encryption Technology

What is encryption?

Data encryption is the method of encoding (i.e. changing a piece of data into some other form) a piece of crucial information so that only an authorized party may read it. This is done to avoid unauthorized access. The encryption method involves a set of algorithms that can only be decrypted using a certain key. Without that key, a highly-skilled professional having large computational resources and a well-designed encryption scheme can only crack the data which is time-consuming and nearly impossible.

There are 3 types of encryption technology – symmetric, asymmetric, and hashing.

1. Symmetric encryptionIn this encryption technology, if data is encrypted and is given a key or a password while sending across the network, the same key will be used to decrypt it to unfold the file or a message. Storing this key and making it only available to the software that uses it is quite tricky. It is used in cloud backup services where the user is given the access key to decrypt the data.

Its major demerit is sending it over the internet where it could be accessed by third or unauthorized parties. Also, the software that needs the information must have the access key, else the whole encryption would be useless.

2. Asymmetric encryption: Unlike symmetric encryption technology that needs the same password for both encryption and decryption, asymmetric encryption technology needs different keys on both sides. The encrypters use, in this case, a public key to scramble the data, and a different private key is used by a separate user to gain access to it. This method is far better since the hassles of whole transmitting data into an unreliable network could be avoided.

A third party can gain access to the public key you are given while you communicate with the actual one. They can then easily gain access to the actual message, encrypt that and forward the same set of messages to other directions. This is why a secure certificate is required so that the browsers trust such kinds of websites as well as the customers and decide what is genuine and what is not.

3. Hashing: Some websites like Facebook use this technique in which the passwords are stored in some other form and it is not reversible. If I use ‘pa$$word’ the encrypted form will look like ‘3a1180vc’. Now the question arises how does it detect whether you enter the correct password or not. The method is simple. Every time you enter the password it will decode it using the same algorithm and match the code with the existing code. If you forget your password it will not be able to decrypt it so you have to re-enter that again using the link it sends across your email.

Encryption technology has many benefits. It gains customers’ reliance upon you while they decide to purchase anything. The more they buy anything, the more they get self-approval that a particular site is safe. And they visit again and likely recommend others. Using encryption technology one can trust saving their sensitive information over cloud networks. Cloud computing is on the rise in the past few years. One can upload files over there and write their pivotal information. Google Drive is a prime example of that. Sometimes the service provider gains access to our valuable information. Encryption key helps prevent that

Encrypting secures the data and one can have access to it in any part of the world and now is the time when one does not have to keep his laptop along everywhere he goes unless it is highly essential. Through encryption, one can be assured that their data is always kept safe, whether they purchase anything over the network or keep a file on the cloud. Remote access is indeed possible and reality these days.

SSL Certificates

SSL Certificates Explained

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) also known as a Digital Certificate is generally used to create a secure link between a website and the browser of a visitor. It prevents hackers from stealing confidential user information like credit card numbers, data transfers, logins, etc. SSL certificate plays a critical role in E-commerce website security which accepts customer credit cards online.

Technically, they are small data files that securely bind a cryptographic key to an entity’s details. SSL certificates bind a domain name, server name, or hostname and the identity of an organization (company name, location). It ensures a secure connection from a web server to a browser as it activated the padlock and HTTPS protocol when installing on a web server.

Once the connection is secured, the application protocol (HTTP) changes to HTTPS where “S” denotes the security.

SSL Certificate

How to buy an SSL Certificate?

Before you buy an SSL Certificate, decide on the type of certificate that your business demands. Depending upon the type of certificate required, the following information may be required.

  • Dun & Bradstreet registration numbers
  • Proof of physical address via database listings
  • An opinion letter from legal counsel or public accountant
  • Other corporate, financial, and government documents such as Articles of Incorporation, bank accounts, and business licenses
  • Government-issued photo IDs

The Certification authority reviews and verifies all the documents and performs additional checks if required before issuing the SSL Certificate. Generally, the process takes 24 hours and may extend up to 3 days.

The SSL Certificate Price ranges from INR 500-INR 1500

Find the right certificate and the right offer for you to make the best use of SSL certificates for data encryption.

Types of SSL Certificates

There are two types of SSL certificates, Free SSL Certificate and Paid SSL Certificate. As the name implies, free SSL certificates are free of cost and fall into two categories, self-signed certificates, and CA-signed (Certificate Authority) certificates. The need for delivering free SSL certificates was to make access to HTTPS available for all websites. When comparing the encryption standards Free SSLs are equivalent to Paid ones.

Paid SSL Certificates are signed and issued by a reliable certificate authority (CA). Direct purchase from the certificate authority or from a third party called ‘Resellers’ is possible. Free SSL certificates do not have Organization Validation (OV) options and Extended Validation (EV) certificates, whereas the paid SSL certificates have provisions for OV & EV which are very much necessary for business website security. Paid SSL certificates have significant differences concerning the level of validation, validity period, support, level of trust, and warranty.

Concerning the performance and functionalities, mainly there are three types of certificates offering three levels of user trust. They are:

a) Domain Validated Certificates (DV)

A domain validation SSL certificate is available for all individuals, businesses, sole traders, and private customers. They are checked against the domain registry without any identification of organizational certificates. This is the cheapest type of SSL certificate and should never be used for any commercial purposes. It is recommended to use the Domain Validated SSL Certificates where security is not a concern, like protected internal systems.

b) Organization Validated (OV) Certificate

These are a more trusted group of certificates. An OV certificate can confirm the authenticity of your business. They are most suited for businesses, non-profits, and educational institutions. OV certificates can make your customer feel your site is safe and legitimate. They show a padlock in the visitors’ address bar and make them feel it is safe to submit passwords, contact information, or donations. It is also proven to improve search engine rankings.

c) Extended Validation (EV) Certificate

This is the most trustworthy SSL Certificate i.e., the highest form of SSL Certification in the market. It has a globally standardized verification pattern to ensure exclusive rights to use a domain, confirm its legal, operational and physical existence, and prove the entity has authorized the issuance of the certificate. This can ensure increased customer confidence.

Steps for choosing the Best SSL Certificate

The most complicated question to be answered next is choosing the best SSL certificate. Let us dive into some of the steps to choose the best one!

1. Is your Domain registered?

Ensure your domain is registered as the Certificate Authorities verify the domain ownership.

2. The level of trust required

Decide on the level of trust required as per the nature and performance of your business. Then carefully analyze the three main trust levels of SSL certificates. Keep on thinking about the level of trust you want to build with your customers before reaching a conclusion. Also, think about the requirement of brand presentation on the address bar or just on the certificate.

3. How many domains do you need to protect?

If only a single domain is to be protected, then a single domain or standard certificate has to be purchased with the trust level – DV, OV, or EV of your choice.

If the requirement is to secure multiple domains or multiple sub-domains a Wildcard or Multi-domain Certificate has to be purchased. A single certificate that can cover multiple fully qualified domain names (FQDNs) is preferred to purchasing multiple individual certificates.

Decide upon the above-mentioned factors and buy an SSL certificate which is no more an option in today’s cyber world.
